At the beginning of the year, I noticed incredibly beautiful embroidery on Instagram. It was Spider Chrysanthemum, embroidered by famous needlework expert Trish Burr.  The author announced pre-order for her Book of embroidered flowers and I bought it right away. Then I forgot about that and was very surprised when I got it. It was like a dream! That’s why I’d like to share my joy with you.

So this is The Kew Book of Embroidered Flowers written by Trish Burr and created in association with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. This folder edition is complete with all reusable iron-on transfers you need, safely stored inside the front pocket.

The book contains several very useful sections like What is needle paonting? or Anatomy of a Flower, or Useful advice before you start, and only after them, there are the projects themselves: from simple to complex. There are eleven beautiful embroideries in the Book, reworking of botanical artworks from Kew’s Art Collection. Focusing mainly on long-and-short stitch and Trish’s delicate, considered use of silk shading, the book clearly illustrates all the stitches needed, and gives thorough advice on preparation and choosing fabrics and threads – including a handy thread conversion chart. In one word, this book is perfect if you want to star your adventure with embroidery, which I an going to do in the near future. So wish me luck!
