Books

Daily writing prompt
What book are you reading right now?

I am reading Jurga’s Ivanauskaitė’s “Švelnūs tardymai” right now – the book in the Lithuanian language I bought during my visit to Lithuania at the end of October. The book contains twenty interviews with famous Lithuanian artists, philosophers, priests, and others. This is not the one book I’ve read, some weeks ago I started “Butler to the World: How Britain Helps the World’s Worst People Launder Money, Commit Crimes, and Get Away with Anything” by Oliver Bullough in the Polish language, and the title in Polish sounds like “Kamerdyner Swiata: jak Wielka Brytania wstąpiła na służbę u oligarchów, kleptokratów i kombinatorów”.

My Motivation

Daily writing prompt
What motivates you?

What motivates me? My essential motivation in life is the desire to learn more about this world and the people who live in it. So travelling is very important to me. Motivation at work is another thing. In teaching, the main goal is to see my students achieve their high-level language certificates and have fun learning a foreign language with me. With my Etsy shops, the major motivation is customer feedback, their five stars and kind words in reviews. Oh, and custom orders motivate me to create something new, something unique. That is a form of development as well.

Favourite Movies

Daily writing prompt
What are your top ten favorite movies?

What are my top ten favourite movies? That’s a difficult question because I have over ten top favourite films. But OK, I’ll try to answer it.

  1. “Moonrise Kingdom” – Wes Anderson
  2. “Only Lovers Left Alive” – Jim Jarmusch
  3. “One Flow Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” – Miloš Forman
  4. “The Pianist” – Roman Polanski
  5. “Seven Samurai” – Akira Kurosawa
  6. “8 1/2” – Federico Fellini
  7. “Blow-Up” – Michelangelo Antonioni
  8. “Death in Venice” – Luchino Visconti
  9. “The Banshees of Inisherin” – Martin MacDonagh
  10. “Blown with the Wind” – David O. Selznick

To sum up, I love all Wes Anderson films, and all Jim Jarmusch films. I also love Fellini, Antonioni, and Visconti films, so I love classic Italian films. Unfortunately, I have no place for French films, but I love them too. And Australian films, and Chinese films, and some Russian films too. I could extend this list endlessly and for that I will put a full stop on it.

A New Shop

If you were going to open up a shop, what would you sell?

If I were to open a shop, I would sell handmade home decor (like my shop on Etsy). It would also be a café and library, so people could learn to knit and crochet or just read a book while enjoying a cup of coffee.

The most important thing

Daily writing prompt
What is the most important thing to carry with you all the time?

What is the most important thing to carry with you all the time? The answer is obvious to me – it’s a mobile phone. First, I can keep in touch with my daughter, who lives abroad. Then I have my bank accounts, contacts, and three Etsy shops on the phone. It has lots of entertainment like YouTube, Sudoku, and many other facilities. So I can’t imagine my life without it.

Cats

Dogs or cats?

Cats. I have a strong passion for cats. While I have no problems with dogs, my true love lies with cats. I deeply admire their independent nature, unique way of life, and their ability to keep a sense of equality with humans. Cats allow us to coexist with them and care for them. In return, they can become our loyal companions.

Harmony

What could you let go of, for the sake of harmony?

To answer this question, we should define “harmony” first. Is this a pleasant musical sound made by different notes played in the meantime, or a situation in which people are peaceful and agree with each other? Is this a social, racial or political harmony? Or good feelings in the family or home? For the last one – domestic harmony I could go of all tangible articles to make my family happy and fulfilled. There are certain moral principles that I could not give up for anyone, but fortunately, such situations do not arise in my family. The rest of the answer to this question requires delving deeper into the subject against the background of philosophies, politics, religion and sociology.
